Temple Of Dawn | Wat Arun | Bangkok, Thailand

Wat Arun is a beautiful Buddhist temple located in Bangkok Thailand in the Bangkok Yai district. The temple’s name is from the Hindu god Aruna, often personified as the radiations of the rising sun. This is why the temple is commonly called the Temple of Dawn.

This temple was by far one of my favorite temples we visited in Thailand. The pictures do not do the location justice. Each detail of this monastery is one to admire. From each piece of glass, tile, sea shell… this temple will leave you speechless and in complete awe.

I am so grateful for this experience and that is why I would recommend this to be a stop for anyone visiting the city of Bangkok. I was enchanted by the amount of detail that went into what seemed like every inch of the space. With that said, explore the grounds and find yourself lost in rooms full of gold Buddha statues, stray cats, and other treasures.

What you need to know:

Location: 158 Thanon Wang Doem, Wat Arun, Bangkok Yai, Bangkok 10600, Thailand

Price: Temple entrance fee is 50 Baht or $1.65 USD.
There is a ticket counter at the entrance and they will issue a ticket.

Dress code:

Wat Arun is an active temple and place of worship for many Buddhists in Bangkok, a dress code should be observed. Visitors are expected to dress with appropriate modesty and respect. Women, covering their shoulders and something knee length. Men, also should wear shirts with sleeves and long pants.

You can rent garments to cover yourself at the entrance. However, we walked down an ally to find a little shop to buy a traditional wrap skirt that is easily turned into something that can cover your shoulders. I also bought my favorite elephant pants there for 100 Baht!

Notes:

We visited the site around 11AM. The sun was hot, so having a water bottle was a must have as well as sunscreen.

I would recommend spending at least an hour exploring the temple, so plan accordingly.
